Pink Sheets And Promises — Lisa Vanderpump x OC
Summary: Ruby thought she’d finally moved on, even diving into a new relationship. But Lisa doesn’t like seeing Ruby with someone else, and jealousy stirs something within her. So Lisa hatches a plan to pull Ruby back into her orbit, by offering her everything she’s ever wanted.
Word Count: 2,684
Warnings: Smut, a little light manipulation (it is LVP after all), and a bit angsty in parts
A/N: I was inspired to write this based on a Lisa Vanderpump edit to this song, and I realized just how perfect a fit it is for her, so yeah, this happened.
Ruby Carlton was glowing, and Lisa Vanderpump hated it.
She watched from across the restaurant as Ruby leaned in close to her new girlfriend—what was her name again? Dana? Deena? It didn’t matter. Lisa didn’t care enough to learn it. What mattered was the way Ruby laughed, her head tilting back like Lisa had never seen before, like this woman could suddenly breathe new life into her.
Lisa sipped her wine, swirling the glass in her hand and pretending not to notice the flutter of jealousy rising in her chest. She’d always prided herself on being unflappable, but the sight of Ruby’s hand resting on that woman’s thigh made her fingers clench around the stem of her glass.
She missed Ruby. Not that she’d ever admit such a thing out loud. It was ridiculous, really, how quickly she’d grown accustomed to having Ruby orbiting her. Ruby always managed to make herself useful, fetching cocktails, laughing at her jokes, defending her when the claws came out. But then, seemingly overnight, Ruby had started pulling away.
The texts stopped coming in the middle of the night. The quick drop ins at SUR to “check in” turned into rare sightings. And now? Now Ruby was flaunting this new romance like Lisa hadn’t been the one she used to trail after like a lovesick puppy.
Lisa couldn’t let it stand. She waited until Ruby stepped away from her date to head to the bar. Lisa intercepted her before she could even place her order.
"Ruby," she said, flashing the smile that always got her what she wanted. "You live in my house and yet I feel like I hardly see you anymore."
Ruby blinked, startled but not entirely surprised. Lisa had that effect on people. "Lisa," Ruby said cautiously. Her guard was up. Good. It made the game more fun. "What are you doing here?"
Lisa tilted her head, letting her hair fall just enough to frame her face. "I own this place, darling. Remember?"
Ruby laughed nervously. "Right. Of course." That had been the risk she took bringing Delia here, but she’d been so excited to come here that Ruby hadn’t been able to come up with a plausible excuse to avoid it. Now she realizes she should have thought harder.
"So, tell me," Lisa leaned in closer, enough for Ruby to catch her perfume. "Who’s the poor girl you’re trying to make me jealous with?"
Ruby stiffened. "What?"
"Oh, come on. Don’t play coy." Lisa traced the rim of her glass with her finger. "You can’t possibly think I haven’t noticed the little show you’ve been putting on."
"It’s not a show," Ruby said firmly, though the flicker of doubt in her eyes betrayed her.
"Isn’t it?" Lisa leaned in, her voice dropping so Ruby would have to get closer. "You don’t really think she’s enough for you, do you?"
Ruby swallowed hard, casting a glance over her shoulder to where Delia sat waiting. "She makes me happy," she finally said, deliberately not meeting Lisa's eyes.
"And I didn’t?" Ruby's eyes snapped immediately back to Lisa on that one. That playful little look in her eyes was the one Ruby had fallen for the moment she’d seen it, and though Lisa did nothing but toy with her, the way she was looking at her now told Ruby all she needed to know. She wasn’t over her. She’d never be over her.
It was the simple hesitation that gave away the crack in Ruby’s armor. Lisa pressed on before she could recover. Brushing a hand down Ruby’s arm, slow and deliberate, she kept her locked in her gaze. Ruby shivered under her touch.
"This isn’t fair," Ruby said, her voice breaking.
Ruby shrugged her off and stepped back like she was trying to gather her thoughts, but Lisa knew all she’d have to do is offer the one thing Ruby wanted most and she’d do whatever she asked.
"Break up with her," Lisa instructed, not wanting to give more than was necessary to bring Ruby back to her.
Ruby’s lips parted, but no sound came out. Lisa had to credit her for lasting this long. She didn’t think Ruby had it in her. Looks like there was only one option left.
Lisa leaned in just a fraction closer, her voice hardly more than whisper. "I'll give you what you’ve been waiting for, Ruby. Everything you’ve ever wanted from me." Her lips curved into a slow, deliberate smile. "You just have to decide. Her? Or me?"
Ruby took one final, regretful look at Delia. "You," she breathed to Lisa, fully aware that she was throwing away something that could have been so good for her for one single night.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t quite hear that." In fact, she had, but she wanted to savor her win.
"I want you. I’ve always wanted you!" She knew Ruby was bound to snap if she pushed too hard, and now half of SUR had turned to look their way, Delia included.
Lisa had dangled herself like a prize she could never quite reach. Until now. And Ruby wasn’t going to let this opportunity go, no matter what bridges she had to burn to get there. Delia didn’t deserve what she was doing to her, but she could feel guilty about that later.
Not wanting to let the moment pass her by, Lisa took Ruby by the waist, pulled her in and made a show of whispering in her ear, all under the watchful eye of that so called girlfriend. "What are you waiting for? Take me home."
The way Ruby sprung into action, that pointless girl all but forgotten, gave Lisa the most triumphant sort of glee. She didn’t even mind that Ruby was dragging her out of her own restaurant and probably scuffing the soles of her shoes as she did so. She’d won.
The car Lisa had taken to get here was already waiting outside the door and Ruby hastily pulled the door open and followed Lisa inside, far too eager for her own good. She realized she was going to have to calm down. She heard her heart thumping in her ears as she closed the door and looked at Lisa.
"What’s changed," Ruby finally asked.
Lisa leaned in until their lips were almost touching. “I realized I don’t like sharing, she said, her breath warm against Ruby’s lips. “And I don’t intend to anymore.”
Lisa kept her waiting until they’d arrived back at Villa Rosa. The anticipation was killing her, but she knew it’d all be worth it. Once inside, Ruby wanted to take her right there at the front door, but Lisa was already two steps ahead of her and after discarding her shoes, was running up the stairs, successfully tempting Ruby to chase her. And she wasted no time in doing so.
Once they’d made it to Lisa's bedroom, Ruby pounced, trapping Lisa up against the wall and kissing her as Lisa smiled against her lips. She’d finally gotten Ruby right back where she wanted her. She’d always known Ruby wanted her, but now she was experiencing firsthand just how much.
It felt like Ruby was all over her all at once. She was kissing her neck while her hands were reaching around and unzipping her dress and suddenly Lisa understood that this was all very real. There would be no toying with her this time, no keeping her at arm's length.
She could say no, say that she changed her mind, and Ruby would stop. She knew she would, but was she really that cruel? If she said no now, Ruby would be packed and gone by morning, doubtfully ever speaking to her again. And it’s not as if she wanted Ruby to stop, not really, but after having strung her along for such a length of time, it felt like it was all happening too fast.
"Ruby," Lisa broached tentatively.
Ruby backed away like she’d been burned, despite Lisa's gentle tone. She’d gone too far, too fast and now it was all over. That’s what Lisa was about to tell her, she was certain of it. She’d gotten greedy, and she’d fallen right back into the trap of Lisa Vanderpump's fickle affection.
The desperate, scared look in Ruby's eyes softened whatever resolve Lisa had. She had to choose her next words carefully. "Slow down. I'm not about to disappear."
Ruby's cheeks flushed with embarrassment and yet a look of relief crossed her panicked face. It wasn’t a no, wasn’t an end like she’d feared.
In her hesitation as to what Lisa expected of her next, Lisa took the lead. She let her dress drop off to the floor. Making her way to the bed, all Ruby could do was stare at the sheer, lace lingerie set —in hot pink, no less— that Lisa must have picked out with the specific intent of the two of them ending up here tonight.
The skintight cocktail dress that she still wore from her date was starting to feel confining, so as Lisa stood at the edge of the bed and beckoned her over, she freed herself from the clingy fabric, leaving it behind as she went over to her. This time, she started slowly. A hand on the side of her neck, and a kiss, slow, steady, searching. This felt better. It felt right.
After a while, Ruby let her hands roam over Lisa's body, lightly at first, then with more purpose. She wanted her, needed her, and it was becoming more difficult to stay patient.
"Take them off," Lisa finally granted. "I know you want to."
Ruby began by unhooking the bra, pausing to let Lisa slide the straps off her arms and cast it aside, then Ruby sank to her knees and hooked her fingers into the waistband of Lisa's underwear and pulled them off. She didn’t bother doing the same for herself. She was comfortable enough as she was, and her fantasy wasn’t about getting herself off, it was about seeing Lisa, tasting her, touching her until she cried out in pleasure from beneath her.
"You smell so sweet," Ruby marveled, looking up at her.
"I am sweet," Lisa teased.
Ruby licked her lips, drinking in the sight of her like this before replying. "Really? Let me taste."
As Lisa laid back on the bed, Ruby's hands traveled up her legs, eventually coming to rest on her hips. As she pulled herself up from her position, she decided to once again start from the top and work her way back down now that Lisa was fully bared to her.
Ruby took her time, exploring every inch of Lisa's skin, making her way down to her chest and taking a moment to appreciate the way Lisa's heart was racing. She let out a soft moan, unable to resist the feeling of knowing that it was her making Lisa this way.
Her kisses dropped lower and lower, until she was finally back between Lisa's legs. This was her moment of truth, her chance to please Lisa like she’d always wanted to.
"Oh." The quiet utterance escaped Lisa's lips with a note of surprise, and was quickly followed by a breathy moan before Lisa reached a hand up to her mouth to stifle herself. Seeing this, Ruby paused, backing off just enough to reach up and gently take hold of Lisa's wrist, bringing her hand away from her mouth.
"I want to hear you," Ruby softly encouraged. For a moment Lisa was at a loss. She hadn’t expected this. Any of this. "Is that okay? Can I…"
Lisa gave a tentative nod of permission. She felt sort of ridiculous looking down her own body at Ruby still hovering between her legs, but then Lisa let her head fall back against the pillow and Ruby's tongue was on her again.
A gasp, a hum, a sigh. Ruby was taking in all of it. She never thought she’d have this. Lisa Vanderpump was hers, at least for this one night and she wanted to commit every sound, every sensation to her memory in case it never happened again.
After a while, Lisa's hands gripped at the light pink sheets as she balled them into her fists, desperate to grab onto something as the pleasure mounted within her.
Ruby slowed down, drawing out Lisa's pleasure for as long as possible, teasing her like Lisa had always done to her.
"I’m going to…kill you if you don’t— ah…finish s-soon." It was the first time she’d heard anything less than eloquent come from Lisa's mouth, and she had to say it boosted her ego a bit to know that she was able to get her aroused enough to the point of affecting her speech. She had been determined to make this the most unforgettable night of Lisa's life, and she may just be succeeding at that.
She finally quickened her pace again, and brought Lisa right back to the edge, sending her over it as Lisa's breaths came in panting gasps and the noises that came out of her fell somewhere between a whine and a moan. It was music to Ruby's ears.
As Lisa settled, Ruby licked the taste of her off her lips. Though she may have been teasing, she hadn’t been wrong. She did taste sweet. Only, now that Lisa's promise to her was fulfilled, she didn’t know where they went from here. She may cut her off, withdraw and string her along like she used to, or she may wake up in the morning and let her do this all over again. Either way, Ruby would be there. After all, it had been everything she imagined and more.
"You're so good to me, darling," Lisa had praised with a gentle caress of Ruby's cheek. And that, for now at least, had been the final word on the matter. She didn’t tell her to go, but didn’t offer anything else either. So, content enough with things as they were, Ruby allowed herself to gaze at Lisa as she collected some of the bedsheets and pulled them on top of herself before drifting off to sleep. She longed to reach out and touch her, slink a hand around her waist, trace patterns on her back or move aside her hair and gently kiss her neck, but she didn’t do any of it. Instead, she just looked, occasionally finding herself drifting in and out of sleep herself.
When morning came, Ruby was still tangled up in Lisa’s sheets, staring at the ceiling while Lisa slept soundly beside her. But when Lisa stirred and turned over, almost as if reaching for her, Ruby gave in to her own desires and pulled her close with a sleepy smile.
"I can hear you thinking," Lisa murmured, opening one eye to look at her.
Ruby shook her head as if it was nothing. She didn’t want to ruin this moment.
"Tell me," Lisa insisted, now looking more awake.
"Is this— was last night, um, it?"
"You want back between my legs already?"
Ruby was dying to say yes, just to see if it would wipe that wonderfully devilish little smirk off her face, but she wasn’t really in the headspace to humor her on this one. "Lisa, please. Be serious."
"I don’t know," she admitted after a moment. "I didn’t even think it would get as far as it did, if I’m honest. I was bored with nobody to play with. You were spending all your time elsewhere, with that stupid girl and—"
"Lisa," Ruby interrupted. She hadn’t exactly answered her question, after all.
Lisa sighed. "I’m not saying yes, but I’m not saying no. You are quite remarkable in that regard, but can’t we just take it a day at a time?"
Ruby flushed at the compliment and then made the mistake of looking into those pretty, pleading eyes of hers. Of course she’d agree to whatever she wanted. It was hope, however fleeting, of something more and that was really the only reason Ruby ever needed to stay.

A Valid View Mr Scott!
Before I go into the basis of this post, it was good to see the club secure their first win. Although not very pretty, given the number of times the score was more points directed than goals. This win, however, will boost the team and the club up a bit, leading into the sixth round and for the rest of the season. Knowing they are capable and can do the job, with some tweaking and more practice in…

an origin story
my husband is english, i am australian, and we moved from australia to new york for work in 2016.
prelude
wrigley field, september 20th 2015 cardinals vs cubs
my first baseball game was the cubs vs someone at wrigley field. i learned a tough lesson about how many tallboys ordered from the beer guy you should drink while in your seat without standing up.
chapter one
yankee stadium, april 24th 2016 rays vs yankees
we'd been in new york for about a month and so my husband and i decided it was time to choose a baseball team. we were temporarily living in midtown at the time, so we got tickets to yankee stadium for a sunday afternoon game. it was fun! i don't think the yankees won (i looked this up, they lost 8 - 1).
chapter two
citi field, july 31st 2016 rockies vs mets
we moved to brooklyn in may. in an attempt to be fair, we headed out to citi field for a sunday game, and i figured that we'd make a decision about who who our team was after this game. i learned later that my husband had been watching an increasing amount of SNY and was already well on his way to making a decision, but i was genuinely on the fence until this day. i kept thinking about how most of my teams back in melbourne (afl: Carlton FC, a-league: Melbourne Victory, both chosen out of proximity to where i lived) play in navy and how i'm easily swayed by that kind of thing.
the joke i tell some people is that the food was better, and i had a vague memory that the mets won (confirmed, they beat the rockies 6 - 4). i definitely remember neil walker got a home run. rationally i knew it was easier to get to flushing than to the bronx from our new home. my husband bought a hat, and i bought a hair clip. the rest is history.
epilogue
someone in a bar once told us that you don't choose the mets, they choose you and i can't say that i disagree. some folks laugh at the idea that we ended up here, but i wouldn't have had it any other way.
